How to root or unroot Galaxy S Plus

The Samsung Galaxy S Plus (SGS+) aka I9001, while virtually identical to the older Galaxy S/I9000 on the outside is a completely different phone on the inside. This device is come with Gingerbread 2.3.3.

In this tutorial we will show you how to root your Samsung S Plus (i9001) and install ClockworkMod recovery. ClockworkMod recovery is a tool that allows you to flash the phone with different ROMs from the phone without using a PC.

Methods for getting into recovery mode

Method 1

Switch phone off

  • Press Vol+ and Power Button
  • as soon as the SAMSUNG logo appears release both buttons
  • as soon as the “Android out of the Box” appears, press the Menu button.

Remark: Don’t press the Home Button during power on! Otherwise you will enter the RAM Dump mode.

Method 2

Get Easy Reboot Recovery from here. It contains adb.exe, 2 dl from Android SDK, and RebootRecovery.bat. 

  • To reboot into Recovery Mode make sure that drivers for phone are installed. 
  • Enable USB Debugging (Phone Setting > Applications >Development > USB Debugging should be checked)
  • Connect your phone to PC with USB cable and run RebootRecovery.bat

The phone will reboot into Recovery mode. 
When you see white box with an arrow and droid, Press Menu button to open Recovery menu.

Rooting

  1. Put Root-i9001-Signed.zip into internal sdcard
  2. Reboot into Recovery mode
  3. Use Volume buttons to choose apply update from sdcard in Recovery Menu.
  4. Press Home button to submit.
  5. Use Volume buttons to choose Root-i9001-Signed.zip on sdcard
  6. Press Home button to start update.
  7. Wait for 2 seconds and your device is rooted.
  8. Choose reboot system now and press Home button to reboot your phone.

Unrooting

  1. Put UnRoot-i9001-Signed.zip into internal sdcard
  2. Reboot into Recovery mode
  3. Use Volume buttons to choose apply update from sdcard in Recovery Menu.
  4. Press Home button to submit.
  5. Use Volume buttons to choose UnRoot-i9001-Signed.zip on sdcard
  6. Press Home button to start update.
  7. Wait 1 second and your device is rooted.
  8. Choose reboot system now and press Home button to reboot your phone.
